Senior Systems Engineer

Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Systems Engineer to join our Systems Engineering, Integration & Test team to lead development of complex electronic surveillance systems for commercial and government customers. This role is critical to successfully developing products and executing projects to achieve Saab’s vision – It’s a human right to feel safe.

The location of this position is flexible; the successful candidate will either work onsite at our East Syracuse, NY, office or remotely support the development activities there. Hardware and software integration activities may require extended periods where the candidate will need to be onsite.

 

Responsibilities include:

·         Technical development of software intensive products which provide system configuration services for safety critical and defense systems

·         Providing technical oversight for a product engineering team supporting new and existing customers throughout the world.

·         Developing and maintaining specifications and technical documentation to support customer deliverables and internal systems engineering processes.

·         Leading technical investigations for new feature development and change requests from both internal and external stakeholders.

·         Balancing competing interests from multiple stakeholder groups

·         Coordinating with product development management to ensure technical, cost, and schedule performance is achieved while maintaining acceptable levels of risk.

·         Mentoring and leading junior engineers within your team and throughout the organization.

·         Supporting technical and cost proposal preparation for future programs.

·         International travel may be required, less than 10%.

Compensation Range: $108,000-$137,700

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in critical industries (e.g., aerospace, defense/military, medical, transportation, nuclear, banking, healthcare, finance, etc.)

  • Demonstrated proficiency with development of software systems

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to form productive relationships in a team environment

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and grow junior engineers
     

Desired:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline

  • Strong Linux background especially with virtual machine configuration

  • Experience with Ansible automation, security hardening benchmarks, and/or security controls

  • Experience with Eurocontrol, FAA, or other air traffic management procedures, operations, and systems

  • Experience with sensor data processing including position estimation, sensor fusion, and/or air traffic data processing

  • Experience with user experience design, particularly for air traffic control purposes

  • Experience with development of server software applications, particularly in mixed Windows and Linux environments

  • Experience with networked computer systems and/or virtual machine environments

  • Experience with cybersecurity, system hardening, and/or intrusion testing

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
