Job Description:

Saab Inc's Surveillance Systems is in search of motivated, enthusiastic Electrical or Computer Engineering student(s) who would be interested in putting their Electrical or Computer Engineering studies to a real-work application in the development of a next generation radar system for the US Navy. This is a hands-on, real-life, development effort using cutting edge technology though circuit card design and advanced FPGA-based design. This assignment is 6 to 9 months in duration at our East Syracuse, NY location.

In addition to a competitive hourly rate, Saab Inc. offers a sign-on bonus to off-set housing expenses for Co-Ops residing outside the typical office commuting distance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Selected candidate will assist engineering in the design, development and test of various electronic circuit card assemblies.  This includes:

  • Design and implementation of basic circuits

  • Design, implementation, simulation and test of VHDL based Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) firmware

  • Bench testing of various circuit cards including first article hardware and legacy hardware

  • Assist in the generation of various artifacts/documentation including circuit board schematics and bills of material

Compensation Range: $20-$22/hr

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Your Experience and Skills:

  • Have a passion for what you do. Be a self-starter willing to jump in with a large development team

  • Enrollment in an accredited degree program, with a major in Electrical or Computer Engineering

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Must have completed Sophomore year or greater


Additional Skills:

  • Understanding of basic circuit theory

  • Understanding of digital logic design

  • Must be able to read and decipher an electrical schematic

  • Working knowledge of VHDL

  • Ability to effectively use MS Word and Excel

  • Ability to use rudimentary test equipment including Oscilloscopes, Digital Multimeters, and power supplies

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both the written and oral contexts

  • Must demonstrate good organizational skills and attention to detail

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
